Summer weather calls for adventure

Kids are out of school, college is on hiatus, and now it’s time for some fun in the sun. With a wide variety of things that you could pick from, how do you choose what to do? Well, regardless of what you and your family choose to do to enjoy yourselves, it’s recommended that it’s something that:

  1. Is relatively easy for everyone to perform.
  2. Is cost-effective.
  3. There’s a strong emphasis on safety.
  4. You can create lasting memories with.

Beach

Beaches are pretty synonymous with the summertime, aren’t they? You find scores of people out on the sands, soaking up the sun’s rays, children making sandcastles or people playing in the water near the shore. It can be a fun time for everyone, with memories to be made, but keep a few things in mind.

Although it may be fun for your kids to be running up and down the beach to get some exercise, do have them keep in mind of their surroundings, especially if it’s a public beach, which would usually be the case. There will be other people using the beach, and it would be in your children’s (as well as your own) best interest not to disturb the other patrons while they’re trying to have fun.

If you plan to be using the beach as a cost effective tanning salon, remember to bring sunscreen. This is especially important if you or anyone in your family happens to have sensitive skin. Although the sun can feel nice and warm, it is possible to get too much sun. Prolonged exposure can give you sunburn and pretty much turn you into a human lobster. Not only is that unappetizing, but you can suffer some pretty painful blisters. The sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays can seriously damage your skin and even cause the skin cancer melanoma. It’s important to keep hydrated at the beach so, bring a cooler filled with your favourite drinks.

Swimming, surfing, playing Marco Polo all require that the person be in the water. This can be a really fun and memorable experience, but there should be some caution exercised here. Namely, the person’s ability to swim.

Amusement Parks

This can be another great way for you to enjoy the summer. There’s always a feeling of grandiose adventure whenever you go on a new ride that you’ve heard about, or visit important landmarks for mini photo shoots. Places like Disney World, Orlando Studios, and Six Flags happen to get a crazy influx of patrons at this time of year. Planning a trip? Here are some tips to make it all the more enjoyable:

Plan ahead. Although these locations can create some magical memories, they can also create a massive hole in your pocket, if unprepared. Be sure to plan out your trip months in advance, to account for hidden costs, as well as possible increases. If there are summer specials for your destination of choice, make use of them.

Just like with beaches, be mindful of your fellow patrons. Remember, amusement parks tend to have a large influx during the summer. If you have small children, make sure to never let them out of your sight. Ensure that they understand the various rules governing the rides. Be respectful of any height or weight requirements that the rides may have. The last thing you want is to have your child hurt on a rollercoaster.
